It’s crazy that we’re celebrating this kind of Black People Magic in 2021… but Professor Andia Augustin-Billy, just became the first Black professor in the almost 200-year history of Louisiana’s oldest college.
Centenary College of Louisiana in Shreveport is 196 years old and openly admitted that granting tenure for the first time to a Black professor was long overdue. They said the delay in doing so is a reflection of Louisiana’s deep history of racism but they hope people will see this move as an example of their dedication to moving towards a more inclusive culture.
Associate Professor Augustin-Billy is known around campus as Dr.“Ah-Bay”… she’s an award-winning academic who shares her expertise on French, African and Caribbean literature and post-colonial women, gender, and sexuality studies.
Better late than never… let’s keep it going in the right direction!
& Remember to always celebrate your magic! xo
