Celebrating history in the making again this week with Black People Magic!
NBA exec Shelly Cayette has become the first Black woman to serve as Chief Operating Officer of an NBA team. The Cleveland Cavaliers just officially promoted her to executive vice president and COO after being with the team since 2012, serving as the team’s senior vice president of global partnerships.
Cayette played college basketball at Tulane University in her birthplace of Lousiana. She is a wife and mother of a two-year-old daughter with another baby on the way.
In reaction to the promotion, she said, “…part of me would like to see the day when I’m not making history… it’s nice to know that I’m the first, but hopefully I can open doors so there aren’t any more firsts.”
Amen! & Remember to always celebrate your magic! xo
