Another stamp featuring a black icon could be in the works… in commemoration of legendary civil rights leader Bayard Rustin’s birthday March 17, the National Black Justice Coalition urged Congress authorize a stamp honoring his life and work.
Mr. Rustin played an instrumental part in many justice movements, including developing Dr. King’s commitment to nonviolence, working to end racial discrimination in employment, organizing the March on Washington and Freedom Rides as well as advocating for refugees and gay rights.
His identity as a gay man often led to him working behind the scenes in the movement, as that part of his identity was seen as a liability at that time in history. After his death, he received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from President Obama.
Let's honor our icons and remember to always celebrate your magic! xo
