Relief from Tickets with Some Cash on Top

The City of Chicago announced plans this week to help out citizens in need... including motorists with debt from tickets and other violations and people who need money each month to pay their bills.

One plan is called the Fix-It Defense, which gives you a pass on any expired sticker fees once you replace it. This is available one time for any resident, regardless of income.

Another for drivers with tickets is the Clear Path Relief Plan. It waives penalties and cuts fees by as much as half for red-light and speed camera tickets. This program is designed for eligible low-income Chicago residents.

The last one is the Chicago Resilient Communities Pilot, which will be accepting applications in just over a week. The program will provide 5000 Chicago households with $500 in monthly income for a year. It’s designed to provide ongoing assistance for those who experienced hardship due to the pandemic and is the largest program of its kind in the country.

Applications will be taken beginning April 25th through May 13th and the recipients will be chosen through a lottery of those applications, with priority given to those living in poverty or in communities with pre-existing hardships. Here's the direct link to the city's page with more information and how to sign up for updates including a phone number to apply if needed.
