This is Community Connect, where we hook you up and help you out with resources you can use… this week, expanded internet access & support on your utilities and jobs!
YMCA of Metropolitan Chicago partnered with Comcast to create Tech Hubs for communities all over the city. 30 kids at the South Side YMCA in Woodlawn got a great surprise – they all got free new laptops right at the ribbon cutting this week! These “Lift Zones” feature free wifi, computers and digital skills training at 6 YMCA locations across the city, including the South Side YMCA, plus locations in Little Village, Pilsen and Humboldt Park. Comcast invested half a million dollars to advance digital equity as part of Project UP and support the launch and scale of Digital Navigator programs to help people access the Internet and digital skills programs.
And if you’re looking for help with your utility bills or for work in the south ’burbs, put August 6th on your calendar… NICOR Gas is hosting a free Taste of Success Job and Resource Fair at the Sauk Village Municipal Center (21801 S. Torrence, Sauk Village). Businesses that are looking to hire immediately at all experience levels will be there along with Ceda and the Salvation Army, assisting with low-income applications to help with utility bills.
