The Recording Academy’s celebrating the magic of Black music!
On Thursday, their philantropic partner, MusicCares, announced its most prestigious honors will go to music legends Berry Gordy and Smokey Robinson. Motown’s founder and the legendary singer will both be the 2023 MusiCares Persons of the Year.
Gordy said, “Wow! How honored I am to be named the MusiCares Persons of the Year, and together with my best friend of over 65 years, the great Smokey Robinson. How special is that!”
And Smokey said, “I am honored that they have chosen me and my best friend and Motown founder Berry Gordy to share this beautiful honor and celebrate with you all together.” The Motown superstar was especially proud of the work MusiCares has done for the creative community since he’s been a supporter of the organization and mission for years.
The MusicCares Person of the Year gala celebration is one of the most prestigious events held during Grammy Week… it will be hosted two nights before the big 65th Annual Grammy Awards ceremony and broadcast next year.
& Remember to always celebrate your magic! xo
