More than 180 news laws took effect yesterday… covering many issues, big and small in our state. ((find the full list here))
Here are a few laws of note:
The Crown Act expands the anti-discrimination Illinois Human Rights Act to apply to schools and include traits associated with race, like hair texture and styles like braids, locks and twists to combat hair discrimination in the workplace.
Time Off for Miscarriage which allows women who have had any diagnosis that impacts pregnancy or fertility to take 10 days of unpaid leave.
Vehicle registration fees for seniors have been reduced from $24 to $10.
And the criminal justice reform legislative package Illinois SAFE-T Act is only partially in force today… it updates rules governing jail time while awaiting trial and the use of force by police but the pre-trial fairness provision that would end the cash bail system has been halted by the Illinois Supreme Court.
