It’s Black History Month and what better time to celebrate more Black People Magic as it happens?
21-year old figure skater Starr Andrews just earned the 4th place pewter medal at the 2023 U.S. Figure Skating Championships on January 27th.
It marked the first time in 35 years that a Black female skater won a national figure skating competition medal since Debi Thomas won in 1988.
And this is not the first time that Starr has made history… she became the first Black American to win a Grand Prix medal last October.
She told the Washington Post, “To be able to be the next African American woman to stand on a podium is amazing.”
And Starr has overcome so much to stand on that podium… she just had surgery in November for a heart condition and is expecting to undergo another procedure but is hopeful for the future.
Go Starr! And remember to always celebrate your magic!
