Queen Latifah just launched a new project called Queen Collective... it's designed to spread knowledge, create access and opportunity for women filmmakers of color telling their stories.
Right now, her focus is on helping Black women finance, produce and promote their films while they “take the directors seat.” Queen Latifah selected six women to bring their stories to life with original documentaries and a scripted short film. These projects will be released throughout the year.
And the benefits go far beyond the director… their crews will be at least 50% diverse so they can “build a pipeline… [of] people who are qualified in every aspect of making films… visual effects, hair, makeup, wardrobe, costuming, cinematography, grips, gaffers.”
