Community Connect is all about how we move forward together and … this week, a NASCAR star moved in fast and reached out to ALL of Chicago.
Bubba Wallace, NASCAR’s only Black driver, hosted his free Bubba’s Block Party at DuSable Museum in Washington Park on Wednesday. Thousands of people showed up to meet the star who took selfies and gave out autographs. The crowd was also treated to a performance Lupe Fiasco, racing simulators, barbers giving free haircuts and more.
He said they picked Washington Park “to spread the word about NASCAR to communities of color and other groups not traditionally inclined toward the sport.” This is the second year of Bubba’s Block Party outreach – last year, he hosted similar events in Birmingham, Alabama and Richmond, Virginia.
& Bubba clearly has love for Chicago’s legacy… he drives the Number 23 Toyota Camry for Bulls legend Michael Jordan’s 23XI Racing team and threw out the first pitch at the Cubs game yesterday.
& You can catch him tomorrow from 1:00-1:15 for a Q&A session at the McDonald's Display before the NASCAR CUP Series Race in Grant Park.
Remember, our community moves forward in the best way possible when we all get the help we need and give the help we can!
