Community Connect this week is all about getting our kids outside safely, and help with clearing out the clutter.
First, for the kiddos in your life, the Forest Preserves of Cook County host Kids Fest today from 10am-3 pm at Wampum Lake at Thornton-Lansing Road, west of 394, near Thornton. This free annual family event offers fishing, canoeing, archery and more. All ages are welcome & registration is encouraged here.
Today is also My Block My Hood My City’s Downtown Day, where they show off the culture of Chicago to over a thousand young people ages 13 to 22… they’re getting $50 gift certificates and discounts from local businesses and attractions to see the sights in small, chaperoned groups. CEO Jahmal Cole says he wants to eliminate the phrase, “I’ve never been downtown.” The program starts today at 10:45am at the Harris Theater in Millennium Park. You can support it here.
& Metropolitan Water Reclamation District President Kari K. Steele and 32nd District State Representative Cyril Nichols host their Community Service Day today from 9am to 12pm at New Covenant M.B. Church, 754 E. 77th Street. The theme is “Preserve the Planet” and it’s your opportunity to dispose of expired and unused medicine, recycle old electronics especially old tv's, and shred any documents.
