With a stellar 40-year acting career that’s still going strong, it’s hard to believe that legendary actress Jasmine Guy only JUST got her first Emmy nomination this week. She’s up for Outstanding Actress in a Short Form Comedy or Drama Series for her work as Barbara Baldwin on the Tubi series The Chronicles of Jessica Wu.
I would’ve thought bringing Whitley Gilbert to life on A Different World would’ve been a sure winner for her, but I guess she’s our Erica Kane… Susan Lucci waited 20 years for her Emmy.
This year’s other Emmy nominations include 8 nods for Abbott Elementary including Outstanding Comedy Series & Best Actress for Second City-trained creator Quinta Brunson. There were also quite a few big snubs to big hits for black folks, including Snowfall and P-Valley.
The 75th Emmy Awards will air live on Fox on September 18th.
