We talked about this last week, and now it’s official… Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr. has stepped down from his role as CEO and President of Rainbow PUSH Coalition and named Reverend Dr. Frederick Douglass Haynes, III, as the organization’s new leader. Reverend Jackson marked the transition in leadership with Vice President Kamala Harris on Sunday at the end of Rainbow PUSH’s 57th Annual Conference.
Reverend Haynes is the senior pastor of Friendship-West Baptist Church in Dallas and he will now lead the organization in its tireless efforts for equity and social justice.
Reverend Jackson, who will turn 82 in October, has remained active in civil rights despite health setbacks recently. He now plans to focus on the collection of his papers and archives, along with a documentary to preserve lessons from the civil rights freedom movement for future generations.
Check out our iHeartMedia tribute to Rev. Jackson's life’s work and legacy in collaboration with B-I-N, Black Information Network, “iHeartMedia Chicago Presents: Keeping Hope Alive, A Retrospective of Service of Reverend Jesse Jackson Senior” hosted by our own Darryl Denard, airing tomorrow here on V103 at 5:50pm CT tomorrow (Sunday) evening.
