Need some inspiration? Let’s talk about a man who graduated as valedictorian of his class after living in a tent for 2 years during the pandemic.
Michael Jeffery of Washington, DC didn’t give up after he lost his jobs at a restaurant and clothing company, then lost his home and started sleeping in a tent under a bridge. He started taking classes at Goodwill Excel Center, a free high school for adults, who he credits with giving him a second chance.
He said, “I didn’t want to be stuck out here, I don’t wish this on anybody, to be stuck out here,” and added, “there was no hope in this tent, but I found it, so you see how far I’ve come and how far I will get."
Michael’s future is looking bright… he moved out of his tent into an apartment and has enrolled at Catholic University for the fall and hopes to eventually attend law school.
