Community Connect: Bike the Drive & United Voices Chicago

Community Connect is hooking you up and helping you out with resources you can use… how about a car-free ride on DuSable Lake Shore Drive and a low-cost afterschool music program for the young people in your life?

Tomorrow is your once-a-year chance to ride your bike on DuSable Lake Shore Drive – car-free with Bike the Drive! The Drive will be closed to motorized vehicles so you can ride as long as you like along the 30-mile scenic route between 6:30-10:30am. They’ll have rest stops, water and snacks along the way plus a festival until 12:30pm at Butler Field in Grant Park. It’s all to raise funds for Active Transportation Alliance, a nonprofit organization that works to improve conditions for pedestrians and cyclists throughout the city. This year, they’re offering youth and adult scholarships and if you don't have a bike, you can also rent one. Registration is still open here.

And if you’ve got talented young singers in your life between 8-18 years old, Uniting Voices Chicago – formerly known as the Chicago Children’s Choir – is looking for them! The after-school program of neighborhood-based choirs just started this Monday and enrollment is still open for the new season. It’s an opportunity for young singers to learn vocal techniques, choreography, and more… regardless of finances. The program adjusts payments based on family income and can be as low as $5. Check out their website here for all the information and click here for instructions and locations across the city where your young person can participate.

And remember, our community moves forward in the best way possible when we all get the help we need and give the help we can!
