Another BIG weekend in Chicago… let’s get into it!
Taste of Chicago is finally back this weekend in Grant Park! It opened last night with the Masters of the Mic starring Doug E. Fresh, EPMD, KRS-One and Slick Rick with a tribute to our own DJ Casper. Gates open at 11am each day & it’s free admission, plus no more food tickets – all vendors are accepting cash or credit cards.
Tonight, Johnny Gill, Dave Hollister & Danny Boy are at the Venue at Horseshoe Casino in Hammond at 8 pm… and rumor has it that New Edition may be joining Johnny on stage to celebrate their 40th Anniversary, too.
Also tonight, Diana Ross headlines the 50th Anniversary Gala for Ingalls Memorial Hospital at the Tinley Park Convention Center.
Tomorrow, the Chicago Bears kick off the new season facing the Green Bay Packers at Soldier Field at 3:25 pm.
Check out the soul music musical “Taste of Soul,” now open at Black Ensemble Theater through October 15th… it’s a musical tribute to the evolution of soul from its gospel roots, featuring the music of the genre’s greatest hit makers – Barry White, Lou Rawls, Al Green, Bobby Caldwell, Gladys Knight and more.
Book lovers must check out Printers Row Lit Fest this weekend from 10 am to 6 pm each day. It’s the largest free literary showcase in the Midwest, featuring over 100 book sellers, along with author panels, discussions, book readings and children's activities. Check it out along Dearborn from Polk Street to Ida B. Wells Drive.
Later this week, Janelle Monae takes over the Aragon Ballroom with her The Age of Pleasure Tour on Thursday, September 14th.
Also Thursday, September 14th, Karyn White hits the stage at City Winery Chicago at 8 pm.
Whatever you choose, have fun and don’t let me EVER hear you say you don’t have anything to do!
