Community Connect honors and supports our veterans on this Veterans Day weekend... and we're sharing some Thanksgiving dinner freebies, too!
Even though we observed the holiday yesterday, today is the 105th celebration of Veterans Day, a federal holiday that honors all military veterans for their service and sacrifices.
Today, the City of Chicago hosts the Veterans Day Commemoration Ceremony at Soldier Field at 11am, to honor our local veterans. If you didn’t register to attend this free event already, you can still watch the livestream on the city’s website as well as the Mayor’s Twitter and Facebook accounts.
Plus, you’ll find many restaurants and businesses offering freebies and discounts for active, former and retired military personnel, including many national chains like Applebees, Chilis, Starbucks, Walgreens and more.
Also this morning, the Black McDonald’s Operators Association (BMOA) wraps up Food for the Body and Spirit, its 23rd annual holiday giveaway of Thanksgiving meal packs, complete with turkey and all the fixings, including sweets from Bimbo Bakeries, plus hats and gloves. Today’s giveaway welcomes families, and they’ll also honor our veterans with a VIP line and special offerings just for them with proof of miliary service. It all starts at 8am at the McDonald’s on 197th and Halsted (19767 S. Halsted) in Chicago Heights. Go early! All giveaways are on a first-come, first-served basis while supplies last..
Remember, our community moves forward in the best way possible when we all get the help we need and give the help we can!
