There was lots of love and food over the Thanksgiving holiday for those in need in the community and for the first Thanksgiving for thousands of migrants staying in Chicago.
New Beginnings Pastor Corey Brooks hosted for about 50 migrants at his Woodlawn Church on Thursday evening, with a translator on hand to make sure language wasn’t a barrier as they introduced them to a new tradition. His Project H.O.O.D. foundation also gave out about 5000 boxes of holiday meals for the community last weekend.
You probably remember Pastor Brooks as the Rooftop Pastor, who camped out on his roof for about a year back in 2011 to raise money for a new community center, which broke ground in September and is expected to open next year.
Rainbow PUSH also served dinner for about 500 community residents Thursday and the Salvation Army handed out food and served about 2500 meals on Thursday through their mobile unit and at their Humboldt Park Freedom Center in addition to hosting a dinner on Tuesday with the Chicago Bears for migrant families.
The Salvation Army is still collecting clothes and toys for their Christmas Angel Tree List, which has about 400 children on the list.
Help as much as you can and remember to always celebrate your magic! xo
