Chicago was representing with Chaka Khan receiving the Music Excellence Award and Don Cornelius getting the Ahmet Ertegun Award. Hip-hop also won big with Missy Elliott becoming the first female rapper inducted into the Hall along with one of the genre’s founders, DJ Kool Herc.
New Edition killed their tribute to The Spinners, Common, Jazmin Sullivan and H.E.R. put it down for Chaka and people were comparing Missy’s performance to a Super Bowl half-time show. Other inductees this year were Rage Against the Machine, Kate Bush, Sheryl Crow, Willie Nelson, & George Michael.
