Congratulations to Comfort Agboola, a teacher at Edgar Allan Poe Classical Elementary School on the South Side, who was the only recipient in our state of what’s known as the “Oscars of Teaching,” the Milken Educator Award. It was the first honor for a Chicago Public Schools teacher since 2010.
Her students, who call her “Boo,” say she makes learning fun in her reading, English language arts and math classes. She said she was “in a state of shock” when she received the oversized check for her $25,000 prize, presented by Congresswoman Robin Kelly and Chicago Public Schools CEO Pedro Martinez.
Agboola also received a lifetime membership to the Milken Educator Network, a nationwide group of professionals working to “Celebrate, Elevate, and Activate” the American K-12 profession. Yay teachers!
