Congratulations to 9-year-old Chicago actor Lennox Simms! He’s nominated for an NAACP Image Award for his role in Ava DuVernay’s acclaimed film “Origin.”
The young star is already an industry veteran... he began modeling at 9 months, then landed a role at 3 years old on Chicago Fire. He’s also appeared on award-winning show “Abbott Elementary.”
Lennox’s nomination is for his work in a scene in “Origin,” which explores racism and class. His scene was inspired the true story of a little boy who wasn't allowed to join his friends at a pool party because he was black. The young actor said, “I'm glad that the story is being told because people need to know that stuff so history doesn't repeat itself, but luckily this has never happened to me before and I hope it never happens to me when I get older.”
He also said seeing himself on the big screen was an incredible experience… saying “I was so proud of myself, I was so amazed, I was like, I'm in a movie, I'm in a movie in a theater!”

The 55th NAACP Awards will air on Saturday, March 16th at 7 pm on CBS and BET.
