Black People Magic: A First for the Bears & Honor for Terry Cummings

This week, Jennifer King made history when the Chicago Bears hired her as the first female coach in the team’s history. She’s also the team’s first black woman coach. She’ll work with running backs as an offensive assistant.

And this isn’t the first time Coach King has made history… with her last position with the Washington Commanders she became the first Black woman to become a full-time coach in the NFL, back in 2021.

Congratulations also going out to Chicago native, NBA All-Star and Hall of Fame nominee Terry Cummings! DePaul University will retire his jersey as one of their most celebrated alumni tonight at halftime as the team faces Georgetown at Wintrust Arena.

In 3 short seasons at DePaul, Cummings tallied nearly 1,400 points, 850+ total rebounds, 140+ assists, and more than 110 blocks. His 850+ career rebounds are still among the top 10 in DePaul history.

Cummings was the 2nd overall pick in the 1982 NBA Draft and went on to have a successful 18-year career. He was 1983 NBA Rookie of the Year, made the NBA All-Rookie First Team, was a two-time NBA All-Star and received three All-NBA honors. He scored almost 20,000 career points, 8,630 career rebounds and 1,255 career steals during his pro career.

& Remember to always celebrate your magic! xo
