Community Connect celebrates the future as Woman's History Month comes to a close.
Big shout out to the young ladies of Southland College Prep Charter High School in Richton Park for their salute to sisterhood this week.
The students have been training since the fall for a dance performance called “Step N’ Herstory”… a step show paying tribute to the excellence of the Divine Nine sororities – Alpha Kappa Alpha, Delta Sigma Theta, Zeta Phi Beta and Sigma Gamma Rho.
The girls who took the stage on Wednesday auditioned for the opportunity, after lobbying teachers for years to organize their step league, as some of the boys at the school had in honor of Divine Nine fraternity, Kappa Alpha Psi.
One of the young performers said the experience “allowed us to be together as one and not individuals.” Yes indeed, that’s what it’s all about!
