Community Connect celebrates a historic event coming to Chicago this fall to support ALS research at Northwestern and helping Chicago's kids learn how to swim.
Just announced this week... for the first time in over 100 years, the Chicago River will host a sanctioned swim. Back in 1908 was the last time the river was the site of high-profile open water swims hosted by the Illinois Athletic Association, featuring superstars of the sport and witnessed by over 100,000 spectators.
Now, “The Chicago River Swim” is inviting 500 qualified open water swimmers to repeat those glory days with a plunge into our city’s much cleaner waterway for the ALS charity event on September 22nd. It will start at the Dearborn and Clark Street bridges and make its way through downtown.
ALS is the neuro-degenerative disease that former Bear and NFL Hall of Fame inductee Steve McMichael has… and the swim will also benefit youth learn-to-swim programs for 2,000 at-risk Chicago youth.
Make your plans now to participate or watch... and remember, our community moves forward in the best way possible when we all get the help we need and give the help we can!
