Community Connect is here with resources you can use… and today we plan to celebrate Memorial Day on Monday. It's a federal holiday that marks the start of summer but the holiday itself was started to honor and remember U.S. military personnel who lost their lives in service to our country.
Tomorrow, the South Chicago community hosts their Memorial Day Ceremony at 11:30am for 12 soldiers from the community who lost their lives in the Vietnam War with a Color Guard, 21-gun salute and wreath laying ceremony at the site of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial and Mural at 91st & Brandon, across from Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Chicago’s first Mexican-American Catholic Church… a parish reported to have had the highest death toll during Vietnam in the country. Organizers are also starting a fundraiser to restore and maintain the mural.
And looking ahead to Thursday, May 30th, register for a free forum Property After Death at Pastor Darius Brooks’ Grace Central Church in Westchester. It covers how to transfer your property to loved ones and avoid fraud, presented in partnership with the Cook County Clerk’s Office. It's all happening on Thursday from 6:30pm to 8:30pm at Grace Central Church, 10216 Kitchener Street in Westchester. Seating is limited, you can attend online or in person.
