Black People Magic: Peytyn Willborn Opens Truth on the Beach

Congratulations to Chicago’s own dynamic entrepreneur Peytyn Willborn who’s celebrating 10 years in the restaurant business by opening a new one!

Peytyn was inspired to open her Bronzeville eatery Truth back in 2014 after watching the Food Network with her son, George III. And on Tuesday, she welcomed customers to her latest venture in food, Truth on the Beach at 57th Street Beach (5700 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive), featuring a menu of light bites and a lakefront bar.

Peytn’s a long-time entrepreneur who once had 3 daycare centers in Auburn-Gresham and was a Hollywood hairstylist, working on movies like Barbershop & Roll Bounce and television shows like MoeshaMy Wife & Kids & Meet the Parkers. She gives back through her non-profit, Quality Life Chicago providing support for people living in at-risk communities.

Peytyn said one of the biggest lessons she’s learned in business is keeping things affordable, saying, “I don’t want everything that I do to be about money. I want something to be about enjoyment.” Everyone in the 60637 and 60615 area codes will get 15% discount at Truth on The Beach (with proper ID) and seniors 60 and older get 50% off.

Truth on the Beach has its official ribbon-cutting ceremony next Friday, June 7th, and will be open Tuesdays through Sundays, 11am to 10pm… look out for events featuring house music, R&B, hip hop, steppers, and community days every 2nd Saturday starting in July with free hotdogs for kids ages 3-12.

& Remember to always celebrate your magic! xo
