Legendary television journalist and talk show host Phil Donahue passed away last night at 88 years old, surrounded by his wife of 44 years, Marlo Thomas, his sister, his children, grandchildren and his beloved golden retriever Charlie. Oprah Winfrey described Donahue as a trailblazer who invented smart talk in the afternoon and brought startling new ideas into the homes of American women. Oprah said “If there had been no Phil Donahue show, there would be no ‘Oprah Winfrey’ show.” He became an advocate for women’s rights after noticing how women decades ago were treated in the workplace.
And you’ll see lots of Hollywood celebs in town for the Democratic National Convention… ABC’s Scandal stars Kerry Washington and Tony Goldwyn will be sharing hosting duties at DNC this week, opening and closing the convention, with The View co-host Ana Navarro tomorrow and actress and comedian Mindy Kaling Wednesday. And tomorrow night, John Legend will be performing at Governor Pritzker's private party at the Salt Shed.
