Rainbow PUSH founder Reverend Jesse Jackson Sr. got his flowers yesterday from many of the nation’s leaders as they honored him for his legacy, and for being a trailblazer on Kamala Harris’ path to the White House.
Along with Mayor Brandon Johnson, Senator Bernie Sanders and many others, Reverend Al Sharpton was on hand for the tribute at Rainbow PUSH Coalition headquarters for their pre-DNC convention and said, “The reason Kamala Harris is going to be nominated starts right in this building… It starts right with this man. It has been a long journey, but the one that brought us this far, was Jesse Louis Jackson.”
If you remember, Rev became the second black person after Shirley Chisholm to mount a national campaign for president in 1984 and became the first black candidate for president to win a state primary caucus when he clinched Louisiana, South Carolina, Virginia, Mississippi and DC.
Tonight, Reverend Jackson will be honored at the DNC on stage at the United Center alongside his son and fellow delegate Representative Jonathon Jackson.
