Celebs and entertainers were enjoying the stage at United Center this week at the Democratic National Convention… speakers included Oprah Winfrey, DL Hughley, and Eva Longoria who proclaimed “SHE se puede,” last night, a play on Obama’s “Yes We Can” slogan in Spanish.
The week also brought performances from Stevie Wonder, John Legend, Patti LaBelle, Lil Jon, Grammy-winning gospel artist Jonathan McReynolds and Sheila E., who paid tribute to vice presidential candidate Tim Walz’s home state of Minnesota with Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy.” Last night, Pink and her daughter Willow Sage did an acoustic version of What About Us and Chicago’s own Common, who was at the UC earlier in the week—also performed at the watch party at Soldier Field.
For my old school rockers, Joan Jett ripped up the Ramova Wednesday night for Tim Walz’s party… Anthony Anderson was there and Octavia Spencer got on stage too.
But the big disappointment of DNC celeb watch was the false rumor that Beyonce would perform her song Freedom last night, which Kamala’s campaign has adopted as its theme song. The rumors were still flying around the UC last night.
Outside of DNC, there has been other entertainment news… on Tuesday, Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Ben Affleck after months of rumors and speculation about the state of their marriage. Another example of how you really can’t circle the block with an ex just because you wonder how it could’ve been. But I wonder if she timed it this way because she knew we’d all be paying attention to something else far more important and leave them alone.
And that's your Entertainment Scoop for today!
