Community Connect is here to hook you up and help you out with resources you can use to celebrate the holidays through different traditions and lend a helping hand!
Today the Liberating Spaces through Neighborhood Action (LSNA) is hosting a free posada, a Latin American Christmas tradition, and healthcare fair from 9am to 3pm at Grace United Methodist Church, 3325 W. Wrightwood Avenue in Chicago. They’ll have festive piñatas, a work shop to make buñuelos (fried Mexican fritter desserts) plus free toys, winter clothes, raffles for Target gift cards, local artisans and more. There will also be healthcare providers sharing resources and free vaccines for flu, COVID-19 and pneumonia. Attendees should bring their health insurance card if they have one. Also today, the Pullman National Historical Park, 610 E. 111th Street in Chicago is celebrating the neighborhood's diverse holiday traditions from 2-4pm at with ornament-making, caroling, a Christmas tree lighting and visit from the North Pole. The event is free with no reservations are required. (See the flyer below.)
& PAWS Chicago is hosting their holiday Adopt-A-Thon through next Saturday, December 21st at the PAWS Chicago Pippen Fasseas Adoption Center, 1997 N. Clybourn Avenue in Chicago. They want to find loving homes for 200 dogs, cats, puppies and kittens in time for the holidays. Appointments are recommended but walk-ins are welcome and they’ll have extended hours to welcome all family members meeting the pets.
