Today’s Salute to the Blues and Southern Soul is in honor of Black History Month and pays tribute to the Queens of the Blues and Southern Soul.
A great example of the next generation of the music is Syleena Johnson and how she honors the legacy of her father, Chicagoan and Blues Hall of Famer Syl Johnson through her work, especially her latest album Legacy that features samples of her father's hits and duets and collaborations with his voice.
I got the chance to chat with her this week ahead of her shows at City Winery later this month and you can check out our whole conversation below.
Catch Syleena as she performs here in her hometown at City Winery Chicago at the end of the month, February 28th and March 1st.
I’ll share more of our conversation in our next Salute to the Blues and Southern Soul when we continue our tribute to the Queens of Southern Soul during Women’s History Month in March.
