Celebrating the magic today of Chicago’s own legendary blues guitarist and singer Buddy Guy who’s been back in the news since appearing in the box office smash horror film Sinners, starring as Sammie in his older years. Buddy’s work is a key part of the film’s post-credits scene, which many have called a pivotal moment in the narrative—so pay attention if you haven’t seen it yet!
Award-winning filmmaker Ryan Coogler—who brought us Creed, Fruitvale Stationand Black Panther—said the film is a love letter to the Delta blues and his late Uncle James, who loved the music. Buddy Guy was also his favorite living artist. Coogler says the film was inspired by Buddy’s life and includes real elements from it—like his character’s name, which is based on Buddy’s father’s name, and Buddy’s migration story from the Mississippi Delta to Chicago.
Sinners was released in theaters last weekend on April 18th… it stars Michael B. Jordan in dual roles as twin brothers and is expected to surpass $100 million in box office revenue this weekend.
