Deeply Rooted Dance Theater wants to get you moving! Their seasoned dance professionals will be teaching adult classes this summer for dancers ages 20 and older, for those continuing their dance journey or returning. The program blends African, contemporary, and modern styles and runs from June 17th through July 8th on Tuesdays and Thursdays at Ballet Chicago downtown on State Street (17 N. State Street) and on Saturday from June 14th through July 5th at Mayfair Arts Center (8701 S. Bennett Avenue). The deadline to register at this link is tomorrow, May 11th.
And the Chicago Urban League is inviting Chicago-based artists to submit proposals for a unique commission: the creation of portrait artwork honoring one of their distinguished 2025 Golden Fellowship Dinner honorees. Up to 3 artists could be chosen for separate commissions. The final artwork will be unveiled and presented to the honorees at their signature fundraiser, the Golden Fellowship Dinner on November 8th, 2025. Selected artists will receive a $1,500 stipend to complete the portrait. Interested artists must submit a bio, portfolio, proposal, and resume by May 23rd at this link.
