Community Connect is here to hook you up and help you out with resources you can use… this weekend, it’s all about back-to-school all month long as kids head back into the classroom in the next few weeks, plus a job fair for veterans!
Tomorrow, Harold’s Chicken #80 in River Oaks Mall food court in Calumet City, along with 5th District Cook County Commissioner McCaskill are hosting a free Back-to-School Giveback from 2-6pm. It’s a celebration with DJs and special celebrity guests where students of all ages can get backpacks and a variety of school supplies. Check out the flyer below for the number where you can text the word “Impact” to secure a backpack for the child in your life. & Everyone that registers will also receive special discounted food from Harold’s. Then next Wednesday (August 13th), Disabled American Veterans (DAV) and RecruitMilitary are hosting their Naval Station Great Lakes Area Veterans Job Fair from 11am-3pm at Greenbelt Cultural Center in North Chicago. It’s free and open to veterans, their spouses, active-duty military personnel, and members of the National Guard and Reserve. In addition to employment assistance, veterans attending can get career counseling and resume assistance, plus network with fellow veterans and military personnel, and get support with their Department of Veterans Affairs benefits and claims assistance—all at no cost.
