Community Connect: Sista Strut and Walk to End Alz

Community Connect always hooks you up and helps you out with resources you can use… and this weekend, it's all about we’re getting our steps in to help two amazing causes!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month and today (Saturday, October 4th) we celebrate with our Sista Strut Pink Celebration… the festivities start at 10am at the Salvation Army Kroc Center (1250 W. 119th Street, Chicago). Registration is free. Enjoy performances, vendors and family fun. Donations are welcome to benefit the Sisters Network, Chicago, Inc, a national African American breast cancer survivorship organization that is committed to increasing local and national attention to the devastating impact that breast cancer has in our community. Studies show that Black women are more likely to get breast cancer at a younger age and have a higher death rate from the disease.

Today (Saturday, October 4th) is also the 2025 Chicago Walk to End Alzheimer’s to support the efforts of the Alzheimer’s Association in its work for care, support, and research to end this disease that also disproportionately affects Black communities. Join them starting at 8am at Lincoln Park Grove 2 near the corner of LaSalle & Stockton (1735 N. Stockton Drive, Chicago), with the opening ceremony starting at 10am. There is no registration fee but all participants need to register online here or on site and of course, donations are welcome.

Remember, our community moves forward in the best way possible when we all get the help we need and give the help we can!
