Today is the fifth day Kwanzaa, celebrating the fifth principle Nia which means purpose.
This day is about combining your personal purpose with the purpose of those around you. When we're able to combine self-reflection with external actions, we create benefits for ourselves and others in the community.
The practice of Nia calls for you to pledge “to make our collective vocation the building and development of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness.”
You can celebrate Kwanzaa in Chicago at Malcolm X College's free annual celebration each day of the holiday through Thursday, New Year's Day.
