An off-duty Chicago police officer was shot after an exchange of gunfire on the Near West Side. According to CPD Interim Supt. Fred Waller, the officer was headed home down an alley when he stopped his vehicle due to a number of garbage cans blocking the roadway. After getting out to move them, a group of people starting firing shots at the officer — who then returned fire. The officer suffered a graze wound to the arm and was transported to Stroger Hospital in good condition.
